Camp Sertoma

CAMP

FACILITIES

Cabins
Camp Sertoma contains five cabins with a total of 50 beds. The first four cabins were built in 1979 with $160,000 of funding by the Sertoma clubs of South Carolina. The
fifth cabin was dedicated on April 1, 2000. This last facility was a project of the Downtown Sertoma Club of Greenville with additional support coming from across the state through local Sertoma chapters. Each cabin is arranged with 10 beds, 8 for campers and 2 for staff. Cabins also contain dressers, game tables, open space, and bathrooms. All cabins are well ventilated for summer camp and heated for off-season use.

Kresge Hall
Kresge Hall, with a 228-person seating capacity, is furnished for complete food service. Modern kitchen facilities allow us to meet any food service need. The facility is heated and air-conditioned, contains a beautiful rustic native stone fireplace, and provides excellent accommodations for the campers' meals and other indoor activities. Kresge is often the site of District Leadership Conferences, Awards Banquets, and other Sertoma functions. During cool months, ample wood is provided for the fireplace. A beautiful view of Lake Hartwell is afforded from the dining area. An adjacent patio provides additional space for socials, outdoor dining, or small group meetings.

Swimming Pool
South Carolina Sertomans raised close to $150,000.00 during "Project Splash" to build this DHEC approved, fully handicapped accessible pool and bath house. Campers now have a clean and safe place to enjoy the water and learn new skills.

Picnic Shelter
The 20' x 60' covered shelter can be used for picnics, catered meals, or cookouts. Adjacent to the chapel and amphitheater (Cannon Chapel), the shelter is equipped with lights, water, and a large grill. The shelter will accommodate 100 people, and an additional 300 can be seated in the amphitheater complex. Rest room facilities are located in nearby cabins.

Cannon Chapel
Cannon Chapel is a beautiful facility for worship services and weddings. It is named in honor of the late Suzanne Cannon, a former Jaycee Camp Hope camper, from Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Conference Room
The carpeted room can be used for light food service, meetings, or approved program activities. It can accommodate up to 48 people with tables or 68 people without tables. Conference style furniture is provided. The building is heated and air-conditioned and contains two restrooms. A permanent movie screen is located in the facility, and arrangements can be made to provide audio-visual equipment. The conference room is a three-minute walk from the main dining room.

Eagles Nest
Eagles Nest is a large open air (screened) tree house built high up on a hill among the oaks and pines that cover the grounds of the Outdoor Laboratory. Campers can enjoy cook outs or overnight camp outs.

Lake Hartwell
Campers learn to fish, canoe, sail, and explore the lake on one of the two pontoon power boats. Some of the kids camp out one night on a nearby island.

Outdoor Ventures Program
The Outdoor Ventures Program can help campers learn to accept and meet life's challenges. Kids are guided through a series of outdoor adventure and challenge activities, progressing from simple exercises to complex problem-solving tasks. By working with others to solve these problems, they gain an increase in personal confidence and self-awareness, discover new abilities, and develop communication skills.

High Ropes Course: a confidence-building obstacle course above the forest floor. As the campers conquer this physical and mental challenge with the help of your support group, you'll discover the strength of cooperation and communication.

Low Ropes Course: a lower-intensity obstacle course located four to eight feet above the ground. Also used to build group trust, the low ropes course allows a suitable challenge for those not ready or able to attempt the high ropes course.

Group Initiatives: a variety of problem-solving activities accomplished through group participation and cooperation. Campers explore different aspects of team building, leadership styles, and trust relationships as they increase their communication skills.
